Stair gauges make good crosscut guides. Clamp your carpenter’s square to your stair gauges while ensuring they coincide with the rise and run of your stair jack. Then you can mark notches. When you clamp them on the one tongue of the carpenter’s square it will become a good crosscut guide for your circular saw.
Consider making sanding blocks that you can reuse time and again. Start by cutting a few blocks from a scrap 3/4″ plywood for every sandpaper grit you need to use.
