Stair gauges can be used for crosscut guides. Make sure that they are clamped next to the carpenter’s square when you cut. Mark the notches. You will make a crosscut guide for your circular saw when you put it on the carpenter’s square.
Consider making your own sanding blocks that you can reuse time and again. Start by cutting six blocks from a scrap 3/4″ plywood for all the sandpaper grit you need to use. Be certain the measurements are around two-and-a-half inches by four-and-three-quarters inches. Spray adhesive is what you use on the blocks and a piece of cork. Put glue on the sandpaper sheet and apply it to the cork blocks face down.
You want to know the different characteristics of the wood you’re going to use, especially before the staining process. For example, a wood that has a stain grade is good for staining. A wood that has a paint grade is lower quality. Particleboard will take on too much stain, while veneer doesn’t take on enough. Getting the right wood helps ensure your project turns out the way you expect.

Many people have a small ruler on them when working in the shop. Sometimes it will fall out of your pocket when you move around. To solve this problem, purchase a metal ruler and keep it next to a small telescoping magnet in your pocket. The magnet should keep your ruler in the pocket.
Select the correct wood to complete your project you do. Some woods will not do well as they cannot handle the stress that others are.
Add a bit more spring to your hand grip. You may sometimes want to use spring clamps, but this can restrict the freedom of your hands. These are tough to open up with a single hand. There is of course, one way to make that simpler. Before you start gluing things together you should get all the clamps placed you need on just random scraps of wood while you’re using your free hands. That way, they are almost at full capacity and can be maneuvered with just one hand.
There are usually specialists available to help you learn how to use the tool more quickly than learning it by yourself. Also inquire if there are handouts available with tips for tool usage.
Do you have screws that are out of reach that need tightened, but you can’t fit a screwdriver or your hand in the area? Head to your toolbox. Just grab a 12-point socket set. Place the socket on your screwdriver, then use it on the ratchet.
